Lenders request salaries not be paid for a couple of months – Varoufakis shuts it down
According to Mrs. Panariti
Lenders
apparently requested that salaries should not be paid for one to two
months in order to combat the liquidity problem. Yanis Varoufakis
retorted by saying it is shameful to even talk about this, requesting
that he should never have to listen to such proposals again.
Finance Ministry officials confirm that this proposal by the lenders was revealed by Yanis Varoufakis’ colleague, Elena Panariti. The proposal was tabled during the meetings she held in Brussels, before Tuesday’s Brussels Group.
According to the same sources, Mr. Varoufakis seems to have ordered to stop any such talks before they even begin.
Elena Panariti also stated that the climate during said negotiations fosters a sort of mentality which frowns upon the Greeks and the country.
According to Mrs. Panariti, the lenders are not exactly helpful. They apparently count on peculiar ways to make proposals, such as the salary one, while other claim we should move to reforms with other partners, without proposing anything of essence.
According to Mrs. Panariti, there are three problems with the crisis:
1. The cause of the crisis which has not been combated. There are still “guilds” out there that continue playing their games. The country produces nothing.
2. More debt was created while nothing was produced.
3. Not only have we lost productivity levels but have also lost young people. There is a demographic “bomb” in Greece, since the young aged between 18-24 number only 250 thousand.
According To Mrs. Panariti, ECB employees operate like banking employees. She also characterized the EC’s officials as bureaucrats aiming to issue budgets for the loans they are willing to hand out.
She also mentioned that it is a real problem that many a 45 year old retires in Greece, even today.
