From Jerusalem to Aleppo with love …
I was once told that cities are like women! Each has its taste, shape, scent and beauty.
If this is the case, then Aleppo is no woman! She is a Goddess. An immortal Goddess that managed to travel through time and still looking young and vibrant as a 15 year old who is full of energy and enthusiasm to look for anything new.
The last time; and the only time I was in Aleppo was back in July 2009. I fell in love with that city instantly. I never knew what the secret that this city in particular has!
Is it the charm of the old and ancient houses that each one of them can tell you a thousand stories of its inhabitants? Was it the smell of spices and rose petals in the old Souq? Was it the diversity of people who walks down the street smiling and looking at you with a proud look that says WE ARE FROM ALEPPO … THE GREATEST CITY ON EARTH!
If I was asked to describe the city in one word only, it would be MAGIC!
That is because, while you are there, you would lose track of time. You would never realise that you have spent hours walking in the streets of the city, until your legs can no longer support you.
Then came 2011, and everything was changed.
Aleppo tried to stay out of the conflict as much as she could. But they would not allow her. They dragged her in this hateful conflict, which not only destroyed physical actual structures, but also crushed souls and spirits.
The whole Syrian conflict did not hit, until one morning while having my coffee and watching the news.
The Aleppo Souq; which is the oldest running market in the world and a UNICEF heritage site, was no longer there! It was burned. Destroyed. How could it be?! Who can do such a thing?!
It was that moment when I realised that this, is no ordinary conflict.
The city that was once one of the most important cities on the Silk Road; the city that harboured one of the oldest Synagogues, the city that is famous for its cuisine and music, the city that is famous for its hospitality and welcoming … is no longer there. Instead, it was replaced by rubbles, hate, thirst for destruction and blood.
More and more, I’m convinced that this region is destined to be restless. Aleppo is no exception I’m afraid.
From the beginning of time, the Middle East lived and still lives in turmoil. Jerusalem, Beirut, Baghdad and Aleppo, are just few to mention of cities in the Middle East that bled and still bleeding. Who is responsible for that?!
Well, everybody blames everybody else. Everyone claims they are on the “right side”. Everyone claims that their “God” is better than everyone else’s “God”.
However, in my own “text book”, God is love. God is mercy. God is welcoming.
So obviously I believe in a different God. A God that tells me hate brings hate, while love will certainly bring love.
So here is my message to Aleppo; hold one my beautiful Goddess. The day will come when you will rise and shine again. The day when your music will be the sound to be heard in the streets instead of artillery, the day when spices and roses are the smell in the streets instead of blood and smoke.
So from Jerusalem, Baghdad and Beirut; I send you love.
Why Washington's Hawks are Trying to Make Obama a 'Scapegoat'

Following President Obama's unusual interview with Jeffry Goldberg in which the American leader criticized the US foreign policy doctrine, Washington's political establishment has struck a blow against the US President, former CIA analyst Melvin A. Goodman writes.
To
President Obama's credit he understands that the Middle East is no
longer a region of "terrible" importance to US national interests and
that the American president can do a little to make the region "a better
place," Melvin A. Goodman, a senior fellow at the Center
for International Policy and a professor of government at Johns Hopkins
University, writes in his article for Consortiumnews.com.
However, Washington's foreign policy establishment does not share President Obama's stance regarding US political doctrine.
In addition, Burns lambasted Obama for criticizing the Saudi royal family: "[It] never works to embarrass a friend publicly."
"The US policy of regime change, which began in Iran in 1953, has never worked. See the Congo, Chile, Vietnam, Iraq, etc. etc. etc.," he remarks.
And of course American hawks are trying to scapegoat Barack Obama for ceding "too much ground" to Russia, Iran. But neither Moscow, nor Tehran poses any challenge to Washington, the former CIA analyst argues.
However, Washington's foreign policy establishment does not share President Obama's stance regarding US political doctrine.
"The most fascinating aspect of President Barack Obama's
unusual interview with The Atlantic was his self-declared liberation
from Washington's foreign policy establishment. Now the establishment is
striking back," Goodman notes.
To
illustrate his point former CIA analyst cites Nicholas Burns, a
professor at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and "a
likely secretary of state or national security adviser in a Hillary
Clinton administration."
Like other American hawks and neocon thought leaders, Burns
criticizes President Obama for not enforcing a "red line" against Syrian
President Bashar al-Assad back in 2013. He failed to admit, however,
that as it later turned out, the US intelligence community had no evidence that Assad was behind the infamous chemical weapons attacks in Syria which stirred US neocons up.
In addition, Burns lambasted Obama for criticizing the Saudi royal family: "[It] never works to embarrass a friend publicly."

ex-CIA analyst continues that US neocons including Burns were very
unhappy with the fact that Washington played only "the second fiddle"
in the 2011 NATO military operation which aimed to carry out regime
change in Libya, propelled by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Goodman underscores that it was an ill idea to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
"The US policy of regime change, which began in Iran in 1953, has never worked. See the Congo, Chile, Vietnam, Iraq, etc. etc. etc.," he remarks.
And of course American hawks are trying to scapegoat Barack Obama for ceding "too much ground" to Russia, Iran. But neither Moscow, nor Tehran poses any challenge to Washington, the former CIA analyst argues.
"The United States has lost credibility and
power with its misuse of military force in the region, but Burns and the
foreign policy establishment relies on the old shibboleths
of credibility and force to make a case for the use of military power,"
he emphasizes.
While Washington's foreign establishment is seeking to beef up the US
military presence in the Middle East and carry out more assertive
foreign policy elsewhere, they ignore the fact that by this they will
deal a serious blow to America's economy and endanger the lives
of Americans. 
More than two hundred pages of emails between Jill Kelley and two senior military officials were recently obtained by the Washington Post, two years after the newspaper filed a Freedom of Information Act request to see them.
The
emails between Kelley, a married mother of three and medical
researcher, show how she flattered former Marine General James N Mattis,
then commander to all military forces in the Middle East, and his
deputy, Vice Admiral Robert Harward, to win honorary titles that she
treated as if they were a real-life diplomatic job.
The
emails show no inappropriate behavior between Kelley and the officials,
though both Mattis and Harward retired from the military within a year
of the scandal.
The
emails, strewn with exclamation marks and capitalized letters for
flair, Kelley praises Mattis and Harward for their diplomatic prowess.
In
one email sent to Mattis after a party in 2012, Kelly wrote: 'Everyone
thinks you're a RockStar! We agreed how amazing it must be that you're
single-handedly re-writing history.'
