The ascended master Hilarion, the Chohan,1 or Lord, of the Fifth Ray of Science, Healing and Truth, holds a world balance for truth from his etheric retreat, known as the Temple of Truth, over the island of Crete. The island was an historic focal point for the Oracle of Delphi in ancient Greece.We know few of this master’s incarnations, but the three most prominent are as the High Priest of the Temple of Truth on Atlantis; then as Paul, beloved apostle of Jesus; and as Hilarion, the great saint and healer, performer of miracles, who founded monasticism in Palestine. Embodied as Saul of Tarsus during the rise of Jesus’ popularity, Saul became a determined persecutor of Christians, originally seeing them as a rebellious faction and a danger to the government and society. Three years after conversion, Paul spent another three years in seclusion in the Arabian Desert where he was taken up into Jesus’ etheric retreat. Paul did not ascend in that life due to his torturing of Christians earlier in that embodiment. In his very next lifetime, Paul was born to pagan parents in 290 A.D. They resided in the same geographical region in which he had lived as Paul in his previous lifetime. As a young boy, Hilarion was sent to Alexandria to study. During this time of study, he heard the gospel and was converted to Christianity.His greatest desire was to be a hermit—to spend his time fasting and praying to God in seclusion. So he divided his fortune among the poor and set out for the desert near Gaza. He spent twenty years in prayer in the desert before he performed his first miracle. God, through him, cured a woman of barrenness. And his healing ministry began.Soon Hilarion was sought out by hundreds who had heard of his miraculous cures and ability to exorcise demons. In 329 A.D., with a growing number of disciples assembling around him, he fled to Egypt to escape the constant flow of people seeking to be healed from all manner of diseases. His travels brought him to Alexandria again, to the Libyan Desert and to Sicily.But his miracles did not only include healings. Once when a seacoast town in which he was staying was threatened with a violent storm, he etched three signs of the cross into the sand at his feet then stood with hands raised toward the oncoming waves and held the sea at bay.Hilarion spent his last years in a lonely cave on Cyprus. He was canonized by the Catholic Church and is today known as the founder of the anchorite life, having originated in Palestine. Μάχη στο πλαίσιο του απελευθερωτικού αγώνα στην Κρήτη, που διεξήχθη στις 18 Μαϊου 1828, μεταξύ των δυνάμεων του τουρκαλβανού Μουσταφά Πασά και του Ηπειρώτη οπλαρχηγού Χατζημιχάλη Νταλιάνη, γύρω από το ενετικό κάστρο Φραγκοκάστελλο κοντά στα Σφακιά.
Τους τελευταίους μήνες του 1827 έγιναν μεγάλες προσπάθειες να αναζωπυρωθεί η επανάσταση στην Κρήτη, ώστε να είναι δυνατή η προβολή επιχειρημάτων για την ένταξη της μεγαλονήσου στο νέο ελληνικό κράτος, σύμφωνα με τη Συνθήκη του Λονδίνου της 6ης Ιουλίου 1827.
Οι προσπάθειες, όμως, απέτυχαν, εξαιτίας τόσο της κυριαρχίας των Οθωμανών στην Κρήτη, όσο κυρίως των αντιζηλιών στο Eλληνικό στρατόπεδο, που απέκλειαν συντονισμένες ενέργειες. Έτσι, επιλέχθηκε να αναλάβει την ηγεσία των Ελληνικών δυνάμεων στην Κρήτη ο ηπειρώτης οπλαρχηγός Χατζημιχάλης Νταλιάνης, 52 ετών, με πλούσια δράση στον απελευθερωτικό αγώνα του ’21.
Ο Νταλιάνης αποβιβάστηκε στις 5 Ιανουαρίου 1828 στη Γραμβούσα με σώμα πεζών και 100 ιππέων. Από τις πρώτες του επαφές διαφάνηκε ότι η σχέση του με τους ντόπιους θα περνούσε από χίλια κύματα. Λασιθιώτες, Ρεθυμνιώτες και Χανιώτες διαφωνούσαν για την περιοχή που θα έπρεπε να αποτελέσει το ορμητήριο του αγώνα. Τελικά, επικράτησε η γνώμη του Νταλιάνη, που επέλεξε τα Σφακιά, αλλά είχε χαθεί πολύτιμος χρόνος.

Στο μεταξύ, ο Πασάς της Κυδωνίας, Μουσταφά, που είχε διορισθεί από τον Μοχάμετ Αλι της Αιγύπτου γενικός διοικητής της Κρήτης, πληροφορήθηκε την ύπαρξη ξένων ενόπλων στα Σφακιά και προφασιζόμενος ότι θέλει να προστατεύσει τους ντόπιους από τους ληστές έστειλε στην περιοχή ένοπλα σώματα.

Οι πρώτες αψιμαχίες άρχισαν στις 8 Μαϊου 1928, όταν ένα τμήμα των ανδρών του Νταλιάνη, υπό τους Μανουσέλη, Μανουσογιαννάκη και Δεληγιαννάκη, κτύπησε στον Αποκορώνα μια ομάδα ρεθυμνιωτών Τούρκων, που έρχονταν να ενωθούν με τον στρατό του Μουσταφά. Σκότωσαν 40 και αιχμαλώτισαν πολλούς, ανάμεσά του και τον αγά του Ρεθύμνου.
Εξοργισμένος ο Μουσταφά έστειλε επιστολή στον Νταλιάνη και του έδωσε δεκαήμερη διορία για να εγκαταλείψει την Κρήτη. Ο Χατζημιχάλης του απάντησε: «Μουσταφά, ήλθα εις την Κρήτη να πολεμήσω Τούρκους με τα παλληκάρια μου και όπου θέλει ο θεός ας δώσει τη νίκη».
Ο Μουσταφά, μη έχοντας καμία αμφιβολία για τις προθέσεις του Νταλιάνη, αφού τον γνώριζε καλά, άρχισε τις ετοιμασίες για την τελική επίθεση. Παράλληλα, έστειλε επιστολή στους καπεταναίους των Σφακίων, με την οποία τους ανακοίνωνε ότι θα χτυπήσει τους «ενοχλητικούς ξένους» και τους καλούσε να μείνουν ήσυχοι για να απολαύσουν τα προνόμια που θα τους παραχωρούσε.
Στο μεταξύ, ο Νταλιάνης είχε καταλάβει το ενετικό κάστρο του Φραγκοκάστελλου στις ακτές του Λιβυκού Πελάγους, μεταξύ Λάμπης και Σφακίων, αλλά οι επαφές του με τους ντόπιους εξακολουθούσαν να είναι δύσκολες και η όποια επικοινωνία τους περιοριζόταν στην ανταλλαγή επιστολών.
Οι Σφακιανοί, αφού κατασκεύασαν χαρακώματα σε αρκετά μεγάλη απόσταση από το Φραγκοκάστελλο, πρότειναν στον Χατζημιχάλη να αφήσει στο κάστρο 100 άνδρες και να δώσει τη μάχη από την ορεινή θέση Κολοκάσια, όπου οι επαναστάτες θα είχαν περισσότερες ευκαιρίες να εγκλωβίσουν τον στρατό του Μουσταφά, όταν αυτός θα επιτίθετο στο Φραγκοκάστελλο.
Ο Νταλιάνης επέμενε να δοθεί η μάχη στην πεδιάδα μπροστά από το κάστρο για να χρησιμοποιήσει και το ιππικό. Οι Σφακιανοί τού αντέτειναν ότι δε ήταν συνηθισμένοι να πολεμούν σε πεδιάδα.
Ο Χατζημιχάλης, θεωρώντας τους δειλούς, τους ανταπάντησε περιφρονητικά: «Λοιπόν φυλάγετέ τους από τα όρη σας για να μην φύγουν και άφετε ημάς εδώ κάτω και κυττάζετε να μας βλέπετε πως πολεμούμε ημείς».
Στις 18 Μαϊου1829 ο Μουσταφά με 8.000 πεζούς κινήθηκε εναντίον του Φραγκοκάστελλου. Ο ίδιος με τη μεσαία φάλαγγα του στρατού του κατευθύνθηκε προς τον δυτικό προμαχώνα, τον οποίο κατέλαβε χωρίς ιδιαίτερη δυσκολία, αφού οι υπερασπιστές του είχαν ξοδέψει χωρίς φειδώ τα λίγα πυρομαχικά τους. Σκότωσαν σχεδόν όλους τους υπερασπιστές του και τον υπασπιστή του Νταλιάνη, Κυριακούλη Αργυροκαστρίτη.
Στη συνέχεια περικύκλωσαν το φρούριο, αφήνοντας έξω από τον κλοιό τους άλλους δύο προμαχώνες, αφαιρώντας έτσι τη δυνατότητα επικοινωνίας με τους πολιορκούμενους. Οι οχυρωμένοι σε αυτούς άνδρες προσπάθησαν να μπουν στο Φραγκοκάστελλο, αλλά οι περισσότεροι βρήκαν το θάνατο μπροστά στις πύλες του.
Ανάμεσα στους νεκρούς και ο Χατζημιχάλης Νταλιάνης, που πολέμησε ηρωικά. Την κρίσιμη στιγμή, το σπαθί του έσπασε και το άλογό του σκοτώθηκε. Έτσι, οι εχθροί του βρήκαν την ευκαιρία να τον κατακρεουργήσουν. Το κεφάλι του το έφεραν ως τρόπαιο στον Μουσταφά, αλλά αυτός αντί να τους επαινέσει τους επέπληξε, γιατί δεν δεν τον έφεραν μπροστά του ζωντανό. Ο αλβανός Μουσταφά θεωρούσε τον ηπειρώτη Νταλιάνη συμπατριώτη του.
Η ήττα στους προμαχώνες και ο θάνατος του Νταλιάνη δεν πτόησε τους εγκλείστους στο κάστρο, οι οποίοι συνέχισαν να αποκρούουν με επιτυχία τις κατά κύματα επιθέσεις των Τουρκαλβανών.
Όμως, η κατάστασή τους χειροτέρευε διαρκώς, εξαιτίας της ελλείψεως τροφών και πυρομαχικών. Από το αδιέξοδο τους έβγαλε ένας Σφακιανός ονόματι Σήφης Διλινδάς, ο οποίος δραπέτευσε από το Φραγκοκάστελλο και πίσω από τις γραμμές των τουρκαλβανών φώναζε προς τους έγκλειστους στο κάστρο να υπομείνουν, γιατί καταφθάνουν πολυάριθμες ενισχύσεις.
Το τέχνασμα αυτό έφερε γρήγορα το επιδιωκόμενο αποτέλεσμα, αφού ο Μουσταφά έλυσε την πολιορκία στις 24 Μαϊου και άφησε τους πολιορκημένους να εγκαταλείψουν το κάστρο ανενόχλητοι.
Στη λύση της πολιορκίας συνέτειναν και οι φιλίες που αναδείχθηκαν μεταξύ πολιορκητών και πολιορκουμένων. Οι περισσότεροι άνδρες και από τις δύο πλευρές κατάγονταν από την ευρύτερη περιοχή της Ηπείρου και κάποιοι ήταν γνωστοί μεταξύ τους.
Άλλωστε, πολλοί άνδρες του Νταλιάνη μιλούσαν αλβανικά και ήταν εύκολο να συνεννοηθούν με τους επιτιθέμενους. Ο ίδιος ο Μουσταφά Πασάς τίμησε τον νεκρό Δαλιάνη. Συγκέντρωσε τα υπάρχοντά του, αναμέσά τους και ένα αντίτυπο της Καινής Διαθήκης και τα απέστειλε στην οικογένειά του.
Η Μάχη του Φραγκοκάστελλου στοίχισε στους Έλληνες 338 νεκρούς, ενώ για τους Τουρκαλβανούς οι απώλειες ανήλθαν σε περίπου 800 άνδρες. Η Κρήτη θα πρέπει να περιμένει έως το 1913 για να ενσωματωθεί στο Ελληνικό Κράτος.
Στη λαϊκή παράδοση, η ήττα στο Φραγκοκάστελλο έχει συνδυασθεί με τους δροσουλίτες. Πρόκειται για ένα οπτικό φαινόμενο, κατά το οποίο στα τέλη Μαΐου η δροσιά που εξατμίζεται με την ανατολή του ηλίου δημιουργείς σκιές, που μοιάζουν με ανθρώπους.
Για τους Κρητικούς, οι δροσουλίτες είναι οι σκοτωμένοι του Φραγκοκάστελλου, τα φαντάσματα των πολεμιστών, που σηκώνονται από τους τάφους στο κοντινό κοιμητήριο, βαδίζουν προς το κάστρο και μετά χάνονται μέσα στη θάλασσα.
