Συγκεκριμένα, ο Αμερικανός υφυπουργός Εξωτερικών αρμόδιος για τα ευρωπαϊκά θέματα, Γουές Μίτσελ, τονίζει πως η Συμφωνία των Πρεσπών συνιστά μία «ιστορική ευκαιρία» για το μέλλον των Σκοπίων και προειδοποιεί ότι σε περίπτωση που δεν εγκριθεί από το κοινοβούλιο μπορεί να μεσολαβήσουν ακόμα και δεκαετίες προτού υπάρξει ανάλογο άνοιγμα.
«Παρά τους ισχυρισμούς ότι υπάρχει κάποια ‘καλύτερη συμφωνία’ που μπορεί να υπάρξει, δεν πιστεύουμε ότι αυτό ισχύει», αναφέρει ο κ. Μίτσελ σε επιστολή που έστειλε προς τον ηγέτη του VMRO, Χρίστιαν Μίτσκοσκι.
