Paul did not ascend in that life due to his torturing of Christians earlier in that embodiment. In his very next lifetime, Paul was born to pagan parents in 290 A.D. They resided in the same geographical region in which he had lived as Paul in his previous lifetime. As a young boy, Hilarion was sent to Alexandria to study. During this time of study, he heard the gospel and was converted to Christianity.His greatest desire was to be a hermit—to spend his time fasting and praying to God in seclusion. So he divided his fortune among the poor and set out for the desert near Gaza. He spent twenty years in prayer in the desert before he performed his first miracle. God, through him, cured a woman of barrenness. And his healing ministry began.Soon Hilarion was sought out by hundreds who had heard of his miraculous cures and ability to exorcise demons. In 329 A.D., with a growing number of disciples assembling around him, he fled to Egypt to escape the constant flow of people seeking to be healed from all manner of diseases. Το Σπίτι της Κύπρου σε συνεργασία με το Ίδρυμα Μιχάλης Κακογιάννης παρουσιάζουν το μεγαλειώδες ποίημα «Αποχαιρετισμός» του Γιάννη Ρίτσου ως ένα θεατρικά δομημένο εσωτερικό μονόλογο του ήρωα του απελευθερωτικού Αγώνα της Ε.Ο.Κ.Α. 1955-1959 Γρηγόρη Αυξεντίου, στην κρύπτη του, λίγο πριν τον θάνατο του.

Ο ποιητής Γιάννης Ρίτσος έγραψε τον «Αποχαιρετισμό» δύο μόλις μέρες μετά τη θυσία του Γρηγόρη Αυξεντίου που προκάλεσε το θαυμασμό της παγκόσμιας κοινής γνώμης. Η θυσία του Αυξεντίου στο κρησφύγετο του Μαχαιρά, συντελέστηκε στις 3 του Μάρτη 1957. Ο Γρηγόρης Αυξεντίου ήταν μόλις 29 ετών.
Στον «Αποχαιρετισμό» πολύ απλά, χωρίς εξάρσεις και μεγαλοστομίες παρουσιάζεται μια από τις μεγαλύτερες πράξεις: Η συνειδητή απάρνηση της ζωής που είναι η υπερνίκηση του θανάτου για την αξιοπρέπεια της ζωής.
Στο ποίημα και την παράσταση που παρουσιάζεται σε σκηνοθεσία και ερμηνεία του Νεοκλή Νεοκλέους και υπό τις μελωδικές συνθέσεις του Γιώργου Καλογήρου, ο ήρωας αποχαιρετά τον κόσμο, τη ζωή, τον τόπο του. Μόνος με την ιστορία, προσπαθεί να αντιμετωπίσει το θάνατο, που έρχεται με βεβαιότητα. Με πολλή ηρεμία και αυτοκυριαρχία σκέφτεται στιγμές και σκηνές της ζωής (του) καθημερινές, απλές αλλά και φιλοσοφεί σε μεγάλα θέματα.
Σκέπτεται το πέρασμα απ’ τη ζωή στον θάνατο και συγκρίνει τις ευθύνες του με τη γοητεία της ειρηνικής ζωής:
«Η φωνή ενός παιδιού –δεν μπορεί- θ' ακουγόταν στα χωράφια ένα απόγευμα -κ' η ματιά μιας γυναίκας που ονειρεύεται χαμογελώντας- η ματιά της χαμένη στο βράδυ, θα σ' άγγιζε, η ματιά μιας γυναίκας που δε σ' είδε και την είδες»
Αυτή η απλότητα, η ηρεμία και φυσικότητα, η αναφορά στο θάνατο, στη θυσία, στους αγώνες του ανθρώπου κάνουν τον ήρωα απλό και καθημερινό, ακριβώς για να μεγαλώσουν την πράξη, τον αγώνα και τη θυσία του, να κάνουν το κατόρθωμα του υπεράνθρωπο, με παγκόσμια και αιώνια ακτινοβολία και οικουμενική σημασία.
Η παράσταση παρουσιάστηκε στη Λευκωσία (Θέατρο ΘΟΚ) στις αρχές Μαρτίου του 2016, παρουσία της αδερφής του ήρωα. Την παραγωγή έκανε ο Σύνδεσμος Αγωνιστών Απελευθερωτικού Αγώνα ΕΟΚΑ 1955-1959 με τη στήριξη του Υπουργείου Παιδείας & Πολιτισμού της Κύπρου.
Στην Αθήνα ο «Αποχαιρετισμός» παρουσιάστηκε για πρώτη και ίσως μοναδική φορά αμέσως μετά τη χούντα, τη σεζόν 1974/75, από το θέατρο «Κάβα» του Νίκου Χατζίσκου και της Τιτίκας Νικηφοράκη, σε σκηνοθεσία και ερμηνεία του Νίκου Χατζίσκου και σκηνικά-κουστούμια του Γιάννη Τσαρούχη. Στην παράσταση προβλήθηκαν κινηματογραφικές σκηνές –με σπάνια ντοκουμέντα- από το φιλμ «Ένας ήρως με μνημοσκόπιο» του Γιώργου Φιλή, που είχε αποσπάσει δύο βραβεία στο Φεστιβάλ Θεσσαλονίκης (παραγωγής και μουσικής) το 1973.
ΓΡΗΓΟΡΗΣ ΑΥΞΕΝΤΙΟΥ (1928 – 1957)
Γεννήθηκε στο χωριό Λύση της Αμμοχώστου στις 22 Φεβρουαρίου 1928. Μετά το σχολείο ήρθε στην Ελλάδα και μπήκε στη Σχολή Εφέδρων Αξιωματικών ενώ παράλληλα μελετούσε για να εγγραφεί στη Φιλοσοφική. Υπηρέτησε στα ελληνοβουλγαρικά σύνορα ως Ανθυπολοχαγός πεζικού και μετά επέστρεψε στην Κύπρο, όπου εργάστηκε ως οδηγός ταξί.
Αρχές του 1955 μπήκε στον αγώνα κατά των Άγγλων και συμμετείχε στις επιθέσεις κατά της Ηλεκτρικής Εταιρείας και του Ραδιοφωνικού Σταθμού της Λευκωσίας. Πολύ γρήγορα διακρίθηκε για τις ηγετικές του ικανότητες και του δόθηκε η θέση του υπαρχηγού της Ε.Ο.Κ.Α (Εθνική Οργάνωση Κυπρίων Αγωνιστών), της μεγαλύτερης απελευθερωτικής οργάνωσης στο νησί, με κύριο στόχο την Ένωση της Κύπρου με την Ελλάδα.
Στις 10 Ιουνίου του 1955 βρήκε την ευκαιρία να παντρευτεί την αγαπημένη του Βασιλική στο μοναστήρι του Αχειροποιήτου.
Οι Άγγλοι κατακτητές έκαναν πολλές προσπάθειες για να τον συλλάβουν και τον επικήρυξαν με 5.000 λίρες.
Στα τέλη Φεβρουαρίου 1957 οι αγγλικές δυνάμεις ασφαλείας έλαβαν την πληροφορία από ένα βοσκό ότι ο Αυξεντίου και η ομάδα του κρύβονται σε μια σπηλιά πλησίον της Μονής Μαχαιρά στο όρος Τρόοδος. Αμέσως, απόσπασμα από 60 στρατιώτες έφθασε εκεί το απόγευμα της 2ας Μαρτίου. Περικύκλωσε τη σπηλιά και κάλεσε τον Αυξεντίου να παραδοθεί. Ο επικεφαλής του βρετανικού αποσπάσματος, ανθυπολοχαγός Μίντλετον, πλησίασε την είσοδο της σπηλιάς και φώναξε: «Ρίξε τα όπλα σου και παραδώσου, αλλιώς θα επιτεθούμε». Κάποιος απάντησε: «Καλά παραδινόμαστε». Τέσσερις άνδρες βγήκαν έξω, όχι και ο Αυξεντίου. Ο Μίντλετον τον κάλεσε και πάλι να παραδοθεί, αλλά έλαβε την υπερήφανη απάντηση «Μολών λαβέ».
Τέσσερις στρατιώτες όρμησαν μέσα στην σπηλιά. Ο Αυξεντίου τους υποδέχτηκε με καταιγιστικά πυρά. Οι τρεις Βρετανοί οπισθοχώρησαν έντρομοι, ο τέταρτος, ένας δεκανέας, έπεσε νεκρός. Ο Μίντλετον ζήτησε ενισχύσεις, οι οποίες κατέφθασαν αμέσως με ελικόπτερα. Η μάχη συνεχίσθηκε για 10 ώρες, χωρίς αποτέλεσμα για τους επιτιθέμενους. Μπροστά στο αλύγιστο θάρρος του Αυξεντίου και αφού χρησιμοποίησαν όλων των ειδών τα όπλα, οι Βρετανοί έρριψαν στη σπηλιά βόμβες πετρελαίου. Τεράστιες φλόγες κάλυψαν το σπήλαιο, για να τυλίξουν σε λίγο το κορμί του Αυξεντίου.
Η μάχη τελείωσε στις δύο το βράδυ της 3ης Μαρτίου 1957. Το νεκρό σώμα του ηρωικού πατριώτη βρέθηκε απανθρακωμένο και τάφηκε την επομένη στις Κεντρικές Φυλακές Λευκωσίας, στο χώρο που είναι γνωστός σήμερα ως «Τα Φυλακισμένα Μνήματα».
Κατά τη διάρκεια της αντιστασιακής του δράσης ο ήρωας Γρηγόρης Αυξεντίου έλαβε τα ψευδώνυμα «Ζήδρος», «Ρήγας», «Αίαντας», «Άρης», «Μάστρος» και «Ζώτος».
