They resided in the same geographical region in which he had lived as Paul in his previous lifetime. As a young boy, Hilarion was sent to Alexandria to study. During this time of study, he heard the gospel and was converted to Christianity.His greatest desire was to be a hermit—to spend his time fasting and praying to God in seclusion. So he divided his fortune among the poor and set out for the desert near Gaza. He spent twenty years in prayer in the desert before he performed his first miracle. God, through him, cured a woman of barrenness. And his healing ministry began.Soon Hilarion was sought out by hundreds who had heard of his miraculous cures and ability to exorcise demons. In 329 A.D., with a growing number of disciples assembling around him, he fled to Egypt to escape the constant flow of people seeking to be healed from all manner of diseases. Το “Βρυσί” βρίσκεται στις βόρειες απολήξεις των Λευκών Ορέων μέσα στην κοίτη του ομώνυμου φαραγγιού. Η πρόσβαση σε αυτό γίνεται από δύο διαφορετικά μονοπάτια από τους Λάκκους και τη Ζούρβα.
Το Βρυσί, αποτελεί αντιπροσωπευτικό δείγμα υπόγειου ποταμού που έχει διανοιχτεί στην επαφή δύο διαφορετικών πετρωμάτων, υδροπερατών ασβεστόλιθων και αδιαπέραστου φλύσχη. Η ομορφιά του αδιαμφισβητητη!Στις βόρειες πλαγιές των Λευκών Ορέων βρίσκεται καλά “κρυμμένο” ένα δυσπρόσιτο σπήλαιο μοναδικής ομορφιάς το οποίο διαπερνά υπόγειο ποτάμι. Το “Βρυσί” λόγω της ιδιαιτερότητάς του με την πλούσια σπηλαιοθεματική ποικιλία του αποτελεί ουσιαστικά ένα γεωλογικό μνημείο απαράμιλλης ομορφιάς και οικολογικής αξίας για τον Ν. Χανίων.
Μέλη του Ορειβατικού Συλλόγου (ΕΟΣ) Χανίων και του Σπηλαιολογικού Ομίλου Κρήτης (ΣΠΟΚ) που είχαν την τύχη να γνωρίσουν και να αγγίξουν αυτό το ιδιαίτερο μνημείο της φύσης, μιλούν για ένα πολύτιμο πετράδι του ανεπανάληπτου φυσικού τοπίου, που η ομορφιά του δεν περιγράφεται αλλά βιώνεται.
«Η ανάβαση στο “Βρυσί” αποτελούσε ένα όνειρο για μας πριν από 25 χρόνια. Πρόκειται για ένα θαυμάσιο τοπίο, κυριολεκτικά μέσα σε μία απότομη χαράδρα και εκεί που δεν το περιμένεις συναντάς ένα σπήλαιο γύρω από το οποίο αναβλύζουν νερά σαν μικροί καταρράκτες… Μέσα στο σπήλαιο βρίσκεται ποτάμι από το νερό του οποίου αρδεύονται μεγάλες εκτάσεις στην περιοχή. Τα πιο πολλά νερά… χωνεύονται από τον υπόγειο υδροφορέα.

Αυτό που εντυπωσιάζει είναι η ποσότητα του νερού και ο θόρυβος του νερού μέσα στο σπήλαιο καθώς πέφτει από πιο ψηλά σημεία σε χαμηλότερα όπου σχηματίζονται λακούβες σαν λίμνες. Είναι ένα οπτικουακουστικό υπερθέαμα που η ομορφιά του δεν περιγράφεται αλλά βιώνεται… » λέει στις “διαδρομές” ο Σταύρος Μπαδογιάννης, πρόεδρος του Ορειβατικού Συλλόγου Χανίων που τα τελευταία δεκαπέντε χρόνια διοργανώνει οργανωμένες εκδρομές στην περιοχή, με πιο πρόσφατη πριν 3 μήνες με τη συμμετοχή 150 Χανιωτών, ξεκινώντας από τους Λάκκους (3 ώρες πεζοπορίας).
«Ενα από τα ιδιαίτερα
χαρακτηριστικά του υπόγειου ποταμιού είναι ότι βρίσκεται σε σχετικά μεγάλο υψόμετρο αλλά και ο εντυπωσιακός διάκοσμος του σπηλαίου. Είναι δυσπρόσιτο και για καλά “διαβασμένους” ορειβάτες και σπηλαιολόγους. Αλλωστε δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι σε ένα από τα πρώτα τμήματά του κρύβονταν οι ντόπιοι κατά τη διάρκεια της Κατοχής» ανέφερε χαρακτηριστικά ο Αντώνης Πλυμάκης, επίτιμος πρόεδρος του Ορειβατικού Συλλόγου Χανίων και του Τμήματος Δυτικής Κρήτης της Ελληνικής Σπηλαιολογικής Εταιρείας, γνωστός για την προσφορά του στην εδραίωση της σπηλαιολογίας στην Κρήτη. Ο ίδιος επισημαίνει ότι η περιοχή αξίζει να αναδειχθεί αλλά και να αναπτυχθεί ο σπηλαιολογικός τουρισμός καθώς ο Ν. Χανίων είναι ο πρώτος νομός στην Ελλάδα που διαθέτει τόσο μεγάλο μεγάλο αριθμό σπηλαίων και βαράθρων.
Το υπόγειο ποτάμι
Το Βρυσί, αποτελεί αντιπροσωπευτικό δείγμα υπόγειου ποταμού που έχει διανοιχτεί στην επαφή δύο διαφορετικών πετρωμάτων, υδροπερατών ασβεστόλιθων και αδιαπέραστου φλύσχη, όπως αναφέρεται στο βιβλίο “Υπόγεια Ποτάμια, σπηλαιολογικές περιηγήσεις στην Κρήτη” του Σπηλαιολογικού Ομίλου Κρήτης. Πρόκειται για μια πηγή νερού άριστης ποιότητας και πλούσιας παροχής καθόλη τη διάρκεια του έτους με διακυμάνσεις ανάλογα με την ποσότητα των βροχοπτώσεων και το κλίμα. Γι’ αυτό και κατέχει ξεχωριστή θέση στη ζωή των ντόπιων καθώς χάρη σε αυτό έχει αντιμετωπιστεί το πρόβλημα της ύδρευσης στους Λάκκους και στη Ζούρβα.
Εκτός από τη μεγάλη υδρολογική του σημασία, το στοιχείο εκείνο που επίσης το χαρακτηρίζει είναι η υψηλή αισθητική του αξία. Οι εναλλαγές του πολύχρωμου και ποικιλόμορφου σπηλαιοδιάκοσμου με τα κρυστάλλινα νερά που ρέοντας σχηματίζουν άλλοτε λίμνες και άλλοτε υδατορροές, συνθέτουν ένα περιβάλλον εξαιρετικής ομορφιάς.
Η πρόσβαση
Το σπήλαιο βρίσκεται στις βόρειες απολήξεις των Λευκών Ορέων μέσα στην κοίτη του ομώνυμου φαραγγιού. Η πρόσβαση σε αυτό γίνεται από δύο διαφορετικά μονοπάτια από τους Λάκκους και τη Ζούρβα. Ο πόρος του Βρυσιού βρίσκεται μέσα στο φαράγγι έχει σχήμα ορθογώνιο και διαστάσεις 1,5 μέτρα πλάτος επί 3 μέτρα ύψος. Η ποσότητα νερού που εκρέει κατά την καλοκαιρινή περίοδο κατεισδύει αμέσως σε τεχνητό φρεάτιο όπου συγκεντρώνονται τα νερά και διοχετεύονται μέσω σωλήνων μέχρι τους Λάκκους και τη Ζούρβα. Τον Χειμώνα οι ποσότητες νερού είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερες. Εξέρχονται από το στόμιο υπό μορφή πίδακα και διασχίζουν το φαράγγι σχηματίζοντας τον χείμαρρο Βρυσιώτη.


Σύμφωνα με τον Σπηλαιολογικό Ομιλο Κρήτης, για να μπει κανείς από τον πόρο αυτό, περνά μέσα από στένεμα μήκους 9,5 μ., πλάτους 4 μ. Και ύψους 70 εκατ. όπου χρειάζεται να συρθεί σε οριζόντια θέση μέσα στο νερό που λιμνάζει μόνιμα σε αυτό το σημείο. Εναλλακτικά η είσοδος στο σπήλαιο μπορεί να γίνει από μια μικρότερη δίοδο που ανοίγεται 20 μ. πιο ψηλά στα 860 μ. Οι δύο είσοδοι δεν είναι οι μόνες που διαθέτει το σπήλαιο. Στην κοίτη και στα πλάγια τοιχώματα του φαραγγιού υπάρχουν ανοίγματα από όπου εξέρχεται ψυχρός αέρας. Ωστόσο έχουν εξαιρετικά μικρή διάμετρο και η εισχώρηση είναι αδύνατη για τον άνθρωπο.
Σπηλαιοδιάκοσμος
Η συνύπαρξη διακόσμου και έντονης ροής νερού θεωρητικά είναι ασυμβίβαστη διότι το νερό στο διάβα του εμποδίζει τη δημιουργία σπηλαιοθεμάτων και συχνά καταστρέφει τους εύθραστους σχηματισμούς που τυχόν έχουν δημιουργηθεί. Ωστόσο, σύμφωνα με τον Σπηλαιολογικό Ομιλο Κρήτης, το Βρυσί παρά τη σταθερή ροή νερού, ιδιαίτερα κατά την περίοδο των βροχοπτώσεων, διαθέτει πλούσιο διάκοσμο: σταλακτίτες, σταλαγμίτες, κολόνες, κουρτίνες, λιθωματικές λεκάνες, ρευματόλιθοι είναι μερικοί από τους πιο τυπικούς σχηματισμούς που συναντάμε στο σπήλαιο. Αρκετοί από αυτούς είναι ο ογκώδεις και ως εκ τούτου μεγάλης ηλικίας.
Λίμνες
Κατά μήκος των αγωγών του Βρυσιού, μετά τα πρώτα 105 μ. σχηματίζονται λεκάνες βάθους μέχρι και 1,5 μ. Οι λεκάνες προήλθαν από τη συχνή υδατόπτωση η οποία με τα χρόνια προκάλεσε τη διάβρωση του πετρώματος του δαπέδου δημιουργώντας κοιλότητες που σήμερα γεμίζουν με νερό και δίνουν την εικόνα λιμνών. Η μεγαλύτερη λεκάνη – λίμνη έχει μήκος 12 μέτρα περίπου
.Λόγω της πλούσιας υδροφορίας του, το Βρυσί είναι σημείο αναφοράς για ολόκληρη τη ΒΔ περιοχή του δήμου Μουσούρων. Το σπήλαιο λειτουργεί ως πηγή μόνιμης παροχής πόσιμου νερού και δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι το όνομά του ταυτίζεται με τη… βρύση.
Εκτός από την υψηλή υδρολογική του σημασία, το σπήλαιο στις μέρες μας θα μπορούσε να αποτελέσει έναν ισχυρό πόλο έλξης οικοτουριστών που καταφθάνουν στην περιοχή. Τόσο το μονοπάτι πρόσβασης όσο και το ίδιο σπήλαιο βαθμολογούνται πολύ υψηλά από άποψη οικολογικής και αισθητικής αξίας και αναμφίβολα μπορούν να προκαλέσουν το ενδιαφέρον περιηγητών, φυσιολατρών και σπηλαιολόγων, σύμφωνα με τον Σπηλαιολογικό Ομιλο Κρήτης

«Ευτυχώς λόγω του ότι πρόκειται για ένα δυσπρόσιτο σημείο, όπως και πολλά άλλα μέρη των Λευκών Ορέων, τα μέρη αυτά είναι “αυτοπροστατευόμενα”, είναι δηλαδή μέρος που δεν μπορεί κανείς να πάει εύκολα. Βέβαια θα μπορούσε η Πολιτεία να δώσει λίγο βάρος στις φυσικές ομορφιές των Χανίων όπως το Βρυσί και πολλά άλλα πολύ ωραία μέρη που θα μπορούσαν να προφυλαχθούνε ή να σημανθούνε όπως πρέπει ώστε να είναι ακίνδυνα και επισκέψιμα από πολύ κόσμο. Ετσι θα μπορούσε να αναπτυχθεί η τοπική κοινωνική και οικονομία…» σημείωσε ο πρόεδρος του Ορειβατικού Συλλόγου Χανίων Στ. Μπαδογιάννης.
