This month 100 pediatric cardiac surgeries were conducted by the medical team at the Center for Child Heart Care at Sai Sanjeevani. As we share the details of the diversity of cases taken up this month, we make mention of three special cases – 4 month old Sukhjit Kaur from Punjab, 4 month old Sambodhi Meshram from Maharashtra and 8 year old Naveena from Tamil Nadu.
It is a well recognized truth that great friendships stand as great pillars of building beautiful lives. January marked the beginning of our collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha, Maharashtra, with two of their medical post graduate students pursuing MD Anesthesia, Dr Pavan Singh and Dr Priyanka Patil, coming to Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital for an observership program. We share with you their experience at Sai Sanjeevani.
Hope all these accomplishments and moving stories that we share with you brings a smile on your face and invokes a prayer in y our heart for the little hearts of Sai Sanjeevani.
Do continue to stay in touch. We sincerely value it.
The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care in Naya Raipur is achieving amazing milestones in its service to Children with Heart Disease.

A Single Cardiac Surgeon successfully operating on eleven children in a day, in an Institution where 'All services are provided Totally Free of Cost to All', is by any stretch, an achievement. The joy of the parents to see their children on their road to normalcy was only expressed through tears of gratitude to the Medical Team and the Founding Father of the Institution, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

I came here as a trainee for Cardiac Anesthesia 1 month back, but now I feel like I am a part of this hospital. Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital is doing a really great service for the patients and humanity. Heart surgery of a child to save his life and raising his lifestyle is itself a challenging job. But the talent, labour, skills and knowledge of the doctors and all staff seems to overcome this challenge in a easy way. Its the dedication of the people here that bless every child to live their life happily.
Everyone here is very polite, cooperative and friendly. The campus is also pretty beautiful. The Hospital building is unique in being heart shaped. Sri Sathya Sai Sowbhagyam also greatly enables in providing a serene and healing environment for the families who walk in.
I am thankful to everyone here for their kind support and hospitality, especially Dr Subramanian sir, who taught me about Cardiac Anesthesia in pediatric patients and provided opportunities to assist him for such a challenging job. At last I will return with a great experience from here and would try to explore this knowledge to serve the community and humanity. Also, I would be very happy to get an opportunity to join this hospital again in the future.
The Story of ‘Sambodhi’
|
4 months old
Bhandara, Maharashtra
Underwent ALCAPA Repair
"I am a school teacher and had studied Genetics. Before my daughter was born I was always proud of my education and thought I was capable of handling any situation in life. My daughter, Sambodhi was born with a very complex and rare CHD. This shook my whole family. I was slowly confronting a harsh truth that during any severe personal difficulty, even the educated become illiterate and helpless"
These were the words of Little Sambodhi's father. He recalls the divine intervention that he witnessed when his brother's friend assured him that he did not have to sell his ancestral home to gather Rs 6.5 Lakh for the surgery. He was informed to immediatly bring the child to Sai Sanjeevani.
At Sai Sanjeevani, weighing 3 kgs, Sambodhi was received with a history of fast breathing, excessive sweating while feeding and feeding difficulties since first week of life. She was diagnosed to have Anomalous Left Coronary Artery arising from Pulmonary Artery. Baby was started on anti-failure medication and after 3 weeks, underwent Button Translocation of Left Coronary Artery to Aorta. She tolerated the procedure well and ws extubated after 36 hours of post-op ventilation. The baby has been recovering in Stepdown ICU and is on full feeds orally and is about to be discharged on Post-Op Day 10.
" She is absolutely fine now and Sai Sanjeevani has taught me the Genetics of Humanity with its basis as LOVE. I have resolved to conduct screening camps near my village and refer patients here, so that they could be relieved of even those few moments of hopelessness that I experienced. Sairam"

I was trying to understand what happened, it was then that she confessed that her 8 yr old daughter was suffering and they could not afford treatment outside as they were told that it would cost close to Rs 4 Lakhs", Shri Sriram, Volunteer from Chennai It was a blessing for the family when they were tld not to worry and were assured of treatment. Strengthened by Divine blessings and will, Naveena's report were sent to Raipur Hospital. 8 year old Naveena was then brought for OPD consultation at Sai Sanjeevani. Reverse Nikaidoh Procedur
Sukhjit Kaur
4 months old
Patiala, Punjab
Aaliya was diagnosed to have a complex Congenital Heart Defect while 3
months female baby from Punjab visited our OPD with cyanosis since
birth, feeding difficulties, fast breathing and on episode of chest
infection. Upon detailed evaluation, she was found to have a complex
cyanotic CHD ? Double outlet Left Ventricle, Large Ventricular Septal
Defect, Side by Side Great Arteries and severe PAH.
Her case was discussed in our multi-disciplinary team meeting and was decided for high risk Arterial Switch Operation. She was admitted the same ady and was posted for surgery the next day. Upon opening, the baby was found to have DOLV, VSD, Side by Side Great Arteries and severe PAH. But due to technical reasons Arterial Switch Operation could not have been possible, hence an on-table decision was taken for Pulmonary Root Translocation from LV to RV with VSD Closure. Baby underwent successful surgery with subsequent chest closure and extubation after 36 hours of Post-Op ventilation in ICU. The Baby remained stable in the Post-Op ICU and could be discharged in stable hemodynamics after resuming oral feeds on Post-Op Day 10. Pulmonary Root Translocation done in this baby is also called Reverse Nikaidoh Operation that is very rare. Surgically a skillful technique, it provides complete relief to the baby incase of technical difficulties in doing a regular Arterial Switch Operation as in this case.
This case has been the first of its kind at Sai Sanjeevani,
a true Surgical Marvel. |
