PM A. Tsipras in Brussels: Last-ditch efforts for deal
It is hoped that the negotiations in the Belgian capital will put an end to four months of sparring and missed deadlines
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is in Brussels today after an invitation by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. The decision to meet reportedly took place following contact made on Tuesday. Juncker suggested a meeting so that the government proposal for an agreement with EU partners – a 47-page text sent two days ago – could be discussed.
In Brussels, Tsipras will have telephone contact with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande concerning their final offer for a deal. Bloomberg reports that Tsipras will also meet with Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem while in Brussels.
