Greco-Russian natural gas pipeline agreement reached

An introductory agreement has been signed
The introductory agreement between Greece and Russia on the Turkish Steram natural gas pipeline was signed today. According to statements by the Russian minister of Energy, the funding of the construction of the pipeline will be up to Moscow through a loan. The Greek side hopes to receive a down payment of 3 billion euro from the pipeline’s construction.

Alexis Tsipras and Vladimir Putin will be meeting in St. Petersburg in a few hours, within the framework of the international economic forum.

This is the second time that both leaders meet within three months and it is a signifier of the importance that everyone places on the meeting. Also noteworthy is the fact that Mr. Tsipras is the honored guest, since he is the only European leader participating in the forum.

Mr. Putin has been watching the developments concerning Greece closely, and recently stated that the Greeks should be the ones that decide on their future, and not lenders.

The Prime Minister who has been visiting St. Petersburg since Thursday will be speaking to the Plenary of the Forum before the meeting, right after the Russian president.
