THE RUNDOWN | Britain's Daily Mall defended its decision to publish photos of Israeli politician Ehud Barak entering the mansion of disgraced US financier Jeffrey Epstein in 2016. The former Israeli prime minister gave an impassioned speech in Tel Aviv on Wednesday vowing to fight back against a torrent of "blood libel" and "lies" after media and critics pounced on the photographs. "I suggest the people at the Daily Mail and anyone cooperating with them to prepare their credit cards. The libel suit is on its way," Barak vowed.

Barak, who recently returned to politics ahead of September 17 elections as a fierce Netanyahu critic, has come under fire in reports highlighting his business ties with Epstein. Epstein was arrested on July 8 this year on charges of sexually exploiting dozens of young girls, was convicted as a sex felon in 2009. The Daily Mail "stands by its recent story concerning Ehud Barak's relationship with the convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein 100 percent," the newspaper said in a statement.
"We note that Mr Barak's assertion that he was not party to Mr Epstein's illegal activities is a denial of a claim we have never made." "These photographs were originally published in 2016...The reason for the latest article is that Mr Barak has now admitted he is the man in the photographs, which also raised a legitimate question about his statement that he “never met Epstein in the company of women or young girls”.
