Ancient Paionia
In the ancient times the large area north of the Macedonian kingdom was called Paionia and its inhabitants were called Paions.
Philip II (355 - 354 BC), took advantage of King Age's of Paionia death, raced against them and conquered them. Thus, the southern part of ancient Paionia was appended to ancient Macedonia.This ancient Paionia land was additionally inhabited by the Slavs, who moved from the depths of Asia in the 6th A.D. Century.
Many renowned Historians, Anthropologists, Archaeologists and other scientists suggest that this true, historic name should be thoroughly examined as a beautiful, fair and honest possibility, not to be underestimated or snobbed...

Στην περιοχή αυτή κατοικούσαν οι αρχαίοι Παίονες.
Το (355 - 354 π.Χ.) ο Φίλιππος Β' εκμεταλλεύτηκε τον θάνατο του βασιλιά των Παιόνων Άγη και εξεστράτευσε εναντίον τους, για να τους κατακτήσει. Έτσι το νοτιότερο τμήμα της αρχαίας Παιονίας εντάχτηκε στα όρια της αρχαίας Μακεδονίας, το τμήμα αυτό περιελάμβανε τις πόλεις Δόβηρος (Παλαιά Δοϊράνη), Αστραίον (μετέπειτα Στρώμνιτσα), Στενά (Σιδηρές Πύλες), Αντιγόνεια (Νεγκότινο) κ.ά. Η αρχαία Παιονία περιελάμβανε γεωγραφικά σχεδόν όλη την Πρώην Γιουγκοσλαβική Δημοκρατία της Μακεδονίας,[1][2][3][4] ένα μικρό μέρος του βόρειου τμήματος του διαμερίσματος της Μακεδονίας και μια μικρή περιοχή της δυτικής Βουλγαρίας.
