The Akathistos Hymn
The Akathistos Hymn is actually a most poetic, lyric, highly emotional Chant that praises the Holy Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary, whom all Orthodox Christians call Theotokos(Theotόκος=God-birthing) !
It is chanted in the churches the four Fridays after the Lent-Monday week and leads the way for the Divine Drama Of Greek Orthodox Easter
( while chanting this Hymn one remains standing-akathistos=standing )
It manifests the deeply felt, unbreakable love-connection of the Greek people with The Divine Feminine, since the Matriarchy Era and even before that, during the whole of the last twenty-five thousand years, as cave-paintings, scriptures and archaeological evidence testify.
This deep relationship is expressed in various ways, through the arts, through painting and music and sculpture, through prayer, through rituals. Every historic occasion in every era of Hellenic life throughout the millenia, every cause for regret, every difficulty or horror or joy or danger, inspire, reignite, reestablish and reconfirm the Eternal Dialogue and Oneness with the Divine Feminine.Maria L.
