Comment.THE REVENANT

Comment.
Brilliant direction, cinematography,  soundtrack, performance-es  , et al. Yet , too many offensive to common intelligence mistakes .
Numerous impossible details , the 'hypothermia' issue, the 'shooting successive shots  with a one shot gun'  issue,  the 'being on top of that rocky mountain and in a split of a second already drinking water in the river 200-300 meters below'  issue  and many more lighter inconsistensies.
Meantime,  the hero's visions and character ,  very loosely or irrelevantly connected. As  if there was an intent to  outstrip the original book and present the hero more like a revenant  ghost /zombie  that has satanically returned for revenge,  mastering relevant powers.  Either this,  or a misplaced , surrealistic, poetic permission , inaptly taken .
And then, this sadistically funneled  down your throat crude bloody atrocity along with lots of 'steaming  almost alive liver',  while you are mesmerized by the image and sound beauty  and  unable to get up and leave.
This same beauty keeps you nailed down on  your chair, force-swallowing the last 15-20 minutes of artistic, human mincemeat chopping, raw human meat gnawing, on blood feasting, etc.
This over exceeding eagerness for atrocity, could look like a well  paid , Oscar sprinkled, Preparatory Course for the Islamic State's  days , actions and 'mass media  promotion videos',  that human society has to yet acquiesce,  abide with and live with, from now on , as per the ruling elite's  doings!
The utter  conclusion for  this artful work being :
"Hey, you sheeple! This is what Hollywood  and its producers along with their  banksters ensure and reserve for you.  Your derogation into a soul-less organic survivor!  How inspiring! How uplifting for the spirit and  warming for the heart!
Last but not least,  let the 'crumbling Church vision' be mentioned here. Where a 'deaf' bell keeps endlessly 'not ringing' ,  Jesus is on the Cross , 'rather indisposed' as per the director's  (or his  funding  jesuitic mentors')  wishfull thinking and the only 'strong' presence , looking at you straight in the eye,  is the Satan/Demon , gluttonously consuming the human; implying that your turn is next!
Unfortunately,  too many subliminal and/or prominent  satanic statements and messages in this artistic work! A  very special, negativity propagating,  glamorous plate served by the currently sociopathic , sickly American culture , once again. Therefore :Thanks but no Thanks!
And my Oscar goes to the Greek hero fighting the bear in this 1963 film. m.l.p.

P.S. 1.
The 'bear raping' insinuations were rather interestingly amusing, when one bears in mind that it was an upset  mother-bear protecting her 4-5 cubs from the enemy. Not an  'empathy inclusive'  point of view  , eh?  If there really was  so much of a need to persuade the viewers  for the final fusion of man into the  beast , they had better activate a male bear.Would have been  more convincing ,  possibly?   m.l.p.
P.S. 2.
Arnold's bear fight is much more amusing and friendly to the Humanity's Environment too! My second Oscar goes there!.   m.l.p.

Anyone else was exhaling at the same time with Leo throughout this trailer? Lol

I can't understand why people thought that he was raped by the bear. It's just stupid.

Just watched this movie, it was beyond amazing. For the first time in the history of theater, you will see scenes that have never been shown in a movie before. This trailer doesn't do the movie any justice, the bear scene is much longer and way way more intense that one can imagine. This will go down as a movie that one will remember even 20 years from now. Enjoy.

As usual Hollywood perverts historic people's stories with Hollywood Jew lies about history.  I suggest people read the Saga of Hugh Glass by John Myers if they want a accurate version of history.  BTW. I just watched the film and it was rather boring. And one technical fail was he kept firing a single shot pistol 2 and 3 times without reloading.  I give it 3 stars.

Absolutely feel the same. I was bored & it left me cold. And I also wondered about the continual firing of the pistol.

There are a lot of actors I don't watch. DiCaprio is at the top of the list. But I will give him credit, he probably taught Obama to cry.

In reality, there is no evidence of the son and no evidence that Fitzgerald was the loathsome coward he is portrayed as here. By most accounts, Bridger and Fitzgerald were just young men, who didn’t see how Glass could possibly survive an attack where his ribs were left hanging out and the man himself was essentially in a coma in the middle of harsh terrain. That led them to make the mistake of taking his knife, rifle, and boots as “proof” he was dead and abandoning their mission to stay behind and give him a proper burial after he’d passed naturally. Understandably, when Glass came to and found everyone had left him for dead and taken everything he had, he was angry. That anger fueled his 200-mile journey, which in the film, along with the brutality of the bear attack and his desire to kill Bridger and Fitzgerald, aligns with The Revenant true story. The brutal hand-to-hand fight at the film’s climax, however, is completely fabricated, and by that point, unnecessary. The Revenant is a great film, but it also goes needlessly overboard on the man-versus-man brutality. A straight retelling of this tale would have carried the same dramatic weight, if not more, when you learn how Glass ultimately handled his thirst for revenge. He tracked both men down separately — first Bridger, then Fitzgerald — and forgave them. In the movie, The Revenant, he does end up forgiving Bridger, but he eventually tracks Fitzgerald down for a one-on-one showdown, Hollywood-style, and while he ultimately decides not to take his retribution, he might as well with how he ends up leaving Fitzgerald. In the end, the missed opportunity in an otherwise tremendous achievement is not having enough faith in audiences to accept the genuine article. It would have required characterizing Fitzgerald in a more sympathetic light and getting rid of Hugh Glass’ probably-fictitious son, but it could also have made the movie more about the power of forgiveness instead of appeasing bloodlust, and that would have been a story worth telling.

No, thanks. I get my daily dose of suffering and savagery from the news. Plus, I've seen the real-life result of an angry bear attack -- don't need to see the CGI interpretation. I like Leonardo DiCaprio, but not enough to subject myself to this. Pass.

  • Too long and not believable. Would have walked out. Real Hugh Glass was mauled and left to die in South Dakota in August of 1823. Took him two months to get to the fort. This time frame makes it much easier to believe that he would have survived. The movie has the character being mauled, left to die, dragging his body through the winter snow, dumped in freezing rapids (hypothermia?), engaging in multiple fights etc. etc.and always his clothes got dry in this sunless winter. Yeah, sure.

    • I actually feel asleep and would have stayed asleep if the movie theater was more comfortable! I especially liked the scene when he dragged himself to overlook the river way down below, and the next scene he was laying in the (frigid) river. How the hell did he get down there! The movie never created a connection with DiCaprio's character for me. And I think DiCaprio is a good actor but didn't buy him in this one. I started laughing when he started imitating Eastwood's voice down the stretch.

What?!?? A Hollywood film inspired by real events isn't 100% true? That has never happened before!!!

Mr Travers,.... I just reread your review. Mr DiCaprio may be doing something different. But Richard Harris did it already, and he even wrote the score for the movie
I doubt I'll hear from you, but I never forget a heartfelt performance. ok you may disagree, but watch the movie

too funny. no one at Rolling stone will even answer me. Peter Travers what do you know?

or DiCaprio.....nice to claim something new when it is just a remake. he and John Huston were better

It's a good story, good acting, and a real good movie. But if you watch it just to see Leonardo DiCaprio get raped by the grizzly bear you'll be sorely disappointed. It was consensual.Just good, hot, rough, man-bear sex.
