US Politicians Increasingly Realize Need for Coalition With Russia
Russia
and the US should work together to fight ISIL, head of the US State
Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Dianne Feinstein said. According
to political analyst Vladimir Shapovalov, US politicians are starting
to realize that the problem of terrorism cannot be resolved without
Russia.
Russia and the US should join their efforts to fight the terrorist group Islamic State, Feinstein told NBC News.
According to the US politician, the current situation would be convenient for the start of such cooperation as the United States started sharing intelligence data with Russia, something which had not happened previously.

“I think the time has come for us also to begin to develop a joint strategy with Russia,” Feinstein said during the broadcast.
Russian political scientist Vladimir Shapovalov believes that such
statements are a signal symbolizing the reestablishment of constructive
relations between the two countries.
“I hope that this is the first sign from US
politicians and experts. It is obvious that the only real way to end the
conflict in Syria and to eliminate the threat of terrorism is
to combine the efforts,” Shapovalov said in an exclusive interview
with Radio Sputnik.
According to Shapovalov, the United States’ authorities are starting
to understand that collaboration with Russia would bring much more
positive results than competition.
“The fact that American politicians are
touching upon this question, I think, is a very good sign. It shows that
there is a turning-point in the American political class. They are
starting to realize that it is impossible to solve the problem without a
broad coalition with Russia,” Shapovalov added.
Therefore, the US is currently facing a struggle between supporters and opponents of rapprochement with Russia.
“The Russian initiative […] confused their plans, and now the
Americans face a kind of moment of truth. At the same time, the United
States does not understand very well how to act in this situation. In
fact, fighting has started between supporters of a tougher stance
towards Russia and supporters of rapprochement with Russia. And I think
the second point of view will gradually prevail,” the analyst stated.
