BRUSSELS, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg
on Wednesday said NATO could help address the root causes of the
migration crisis in Europe by assisting its partner countries in the
Middle East and North Africa with defense capacity building.
Stoltenberg made the remarks in a joint press conference with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.
The NATO chief expressed appreciation for Luxembourg's investment in high-tech military capabilities, particularly satellite communications, according to NATO.
Stoltenberg also welcomed Luxembourg's new financial contributions to a NATO trust fund for defense capacity building, noting that it would help the Alliance train, advise and assist partner countries, increasing their ability to defend themselves.
He stressed that by helping build defense capacity, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, "we also help address the root causes of the migration crisis we face now."
