Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen ‘cynical ploy’ by US: Analyst

Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against Yemen is supported by the United States both militarily and politically.
Saudi
Arabia’s military campaign against Yemen is supported by the United
States both militarily and politically, “a cynical ploy” by the US to
maintain hegemony in the Middle East, a geopolitical analyst in New York
says.
“If you look at this entire operation, this entire campaign, it is top to bottom backed by the United States, it is backed politically, rhetorically, diplomatically and it is also backed militarily,” Eric Draitser, the founder of StopImperialism.com, told Press TV in an interview on Wednesday.
Saudi Arabia’s air campaign in Yemen started on March 26 in a bid to restore power to fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
The Saudi-led airstrikes have so far killed over 140 people, including at least 62 children.
US President Barack Obama has expressed his support of the assault on the people of Yemen.
The Obama administration has said it is providing "logistical and intelligence support" for the operations.
The US Navy has directly joined Saudi Arabia’s airstrikes against Yemen, according to a military source. US warships took part in an air assault against Yeminis on Monday, the unnamed source told a Russian media outlet.
"American ships participated in yesterday's airstrikes on Sana’a, specifically, they launched a cruise missile on a strengthened missile brigade,” the source told Sputnik on Tuesday.
Political observers say America’s direct involvement in the military operation in Yemen is not surprising.
“Rather than buying into the narrative that’s presented in the Western media of a Saudi-led coalition, I think quite frankly, we need to look at it more as a US initiative under the auspices of Saudi Arabia,” Draitser said.
“This is a cynical ploy by the imperialist system in order to further its own hegemony and to maintain the system that it has had in the region for decades,” he noted.
