BUCHAREST, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Monday sought common solutions to the possible bad-loan crisis raised by the appreciation of the Swiss franc, advising people, however, not to have "unrealistic expectations."
"There's only the possibility discussed with the national bank, with the private banks and the parliamentary groups, to see what legislative measures can be taken," Ponta, who is also the leader of the ruling Social Democrat Party, told a press conference at his party headquarters.
According to Ponta, he has already sent an invitation to the main opposition National Liberal Party, and also invited other parliamentary parties to discuss the matter.
Ponta stressed the solution to the Swiss franc crisis needed to be found collectively, as it is not "something pertaining to one party or one government. We're talking about a market economy and about various public and private institutions that have responsibilities."
Meanwhile, he warned that he didn't want the government to "sell illusions" or "create unrealistic expectations."
The Swiss franc soared as much as 30 percent on the international markets on Thursday, after the Swiss National Bank abandoned the 1.20 franc cap on the currency's value against the euro that was introduced in 2011. The sharp appreciation affects about 75,000 people in Romania who have taken out Swiss franc loans in the past years
