“Tick, Tock, The Countdown For Rajoy Begins On Jan 31″ Says Podemos Leader Following Syriza Victory

NEWS: Mr. Rajoy and Mr. Sánchez did not make any comment on Sunday evening. Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias said Greeks would now have “a real prime minister, not a Merkel delegate”.
Spanish politicians responded to Syriza’s election victory in Greece on Sunday evening, as tricolor Spanish Second Republic flags—commonly seen at left-wing demonstrations in Spain—could be seen waving in the Syriza victory demonstration in Athens.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister’s office at Moncloa told The Spain Report by telephone that no official response was expected from the Spanish government or Mariano Rajoy until Monday morning, “when all of the official results are in”, but Popular Party spokesman Rafael Hernando said during a television interview on Sunday evening that: “Podemos and Syriza use the discourse of despair. They have won there [in Greece] because there is desperation”.
Pablo Iglesias, the leader of Podemos, appeared satisfied with Syriza’s victory, after participating in the election campaign in Athens alongside Alexis Tsipras: “They are going to have a real Greek Prime Minister, not a Merkel delegate”.
Regarding the key questions of relations with Europe and debt negotiations, Mr. Iglesias said: “To be able to pay its debts, Greece needs a different economic plan to the one they’ve had until now. Greece is 2-3% of EU GDP, Spain is 12%. We are not in conditions to be threatened by the Bundesbank”.
Asked about the possibility of Podemos following Syriza’s lead in Spain, he replied that: “We have said 2015 is the year of change. The year of change in Spain is 2015, the same as in Greece”, adding: “Tick, tock, tick, tock, the countdown for Rajoy’s government begins on January 31″.
Senior Podemos leader Iñigo Errejón tweeted: “Saqueo politics have already proven unjust and inefficient. The only thing left was for them to seem inevitable. That can be broken today”.
Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE) European Union spokeswoman Iratxe García PSOE spokeswoman called for “responsibility” from the new Syriza government in Athens and said that: “PASOK has been a victim”, denying the Spanish Socialist Party would suffer the same fate as its sister party in Greece.
“What happened to the PASOK [in Greece] isn’t going to happen to us because PASOK supported a right-wing government”.
PSOE Secretary General Pedro Sánchez did not make any comment on Sunday evening.
Rosa Díaz, leader of Union, Progress & Democracy, said that “the classical bipartisan system has been smashed”, adding that “Greeks want cleansing and change”.
