The US is using the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group as a pretext to continue its military presence in foreign countries under the theme of the so-called war on terror, says an academic, Press TV reports.
Anthony Hall, a professor at Lethbridge University, said in an interview with Press TV that, “The people who are fighting ISIL are also creating it,” adding that, “This is a very old theme in the backroom politics of war and geopolitical manipulation.”
“The backing of ISIL and the using of ISIL to create a certain mentality in the United States to continue the global war on terror - in a sense rebrand the war on terror - is very important evidence that the United States is arming its enemies,” he stated.
Hall said that the US is playing a very “cynical” and “dangerous” game, adding that this “vital evidence” should be brought to the attention of people around the world.
The academic also said that “the roots of ISIL go back to Saudi Arabia” and “ultimately Israel is manipulating the United States.”
Volunteer forces fighting against the Takfiri ISIL terrorists say US military aircraft have dropped weapons in the areas held by the terrorist group in Iraq.
A US-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against what it says are ISIL positions in Iraq and Syria. However, the air raids have so far failed to halt the militants’ acts of terror.
